My Story

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to make things. For nearly as long, I have been fascinated with gems, minerals, and fossils. On my 12th birthday, my grandmother gave me a pair of turquoise earrings, the start of over two decades of collecting vintage and handmade sterling silver jewelry. Metalsmithing for me has been a natural convergence of these passions, and one of the few interests I’ve had in my life that has held my attention with this level of intensity.

I got started in 2017 after taking a six-class intro course at a local maker space. I worked on my own for the next year, eventually taking a 40 hour studio class through the continuing studies program at Maine College of Art. Since 2018, I’ve continued learning on my own through books, online education, and many hours of hands on work.

Everything I make is hand-fabricated from silver sheet and wire in my Portland, Maine studio. I design every piece myself. I do not purchase any settings ready-made or outsource any part of the process. It’s important to me to balance the demands of owning a business with the ethos of making everything with my own two hands.

Each piece is made with love, intention, and joy. That sounds hyperbolic and maybe it is, a little; no one loves what they do all the time. But metalsmithing is the closest I’ve ever come to that, and I hope it shows.
